Jasvir Lota, born in great britain, at hammersmith hospital, west london and grew up in East Acton.
His early years were spent at East Acton First School. Jasvir made friends easily and there he was first introduced to drama and played one of the three wise men in the school nativity play, the performance made the 1978 local Acton Gazette newspaper. "i remember going on school trips to the theatre to watch a pantomime, the farm, the zoo and a week-end trip to gilwell park in epping forest. what an experience"
"i remember going on school trips to the theatre to watch a pantomime, the farm, the zoo and week-end trip to gilwell park in epping forest. what an experience"
In 1979- 1982 jasvir moved onto John Perryn Middle School for four years, "I was a popular and rebellious student." "I would go to jim's inn cafe opposite wormwood scrubs ground, with my friends before school started and play space invaders".
A keen athlete, "i participated in athletics, and was awarded a three star pentathlete badge from the Amateur Athletic Association for 800 metres run, discus, javelin, shot-put and long jump". jasvir made it in the football team where he played defender, and rugby team where he played hooker. jasvir was also awarded a certificate for swimming 25 meters freestyle stroke at Acton Baths, London.
I went on two one day school trips, one was to the seaside town of margate in kent and the other was a one day foreign school trip to calais in france. we went by coach and ferry a trip i will never forget".
jasvir performed in two school plays. "i played a brown bear in one play and I played a victorian street boy in another play, my line was sweep a path for a penny "
"I would go to jim's inn cafe opposite the scrubs with my friends before school started and play space invaders"
In 1982- 1984 Jasvir studied at Faraday High School in East Acton, he enjoyed his time there and had many friends, his favourite lessons was history and P.E, he participated in school fitness activities, they included long distance running and fitness training, he stayed there for 2 terms, until the school closed down and merged with the local school down the road called Reynolds High School, the new school was called Acton High School. In 1984-1986 javir studied at Acton High School for 2 terms, while studying there, he only enjoyed a few subjects, he became board with school and would often play truant .
"I would go to the local cinema in Ealing to watch the latest movie's, and go running at wormwood scrubs ground to pass the time. this lasted for about four month until i got into trouble with the police for trespassing. i was down the scrubs, i climbed over the wire fence onto british railway ground and began to explore the wooded area for about an hour, then i decided to make a shelter out of wood i found on the ground, everything thing was going well, then there was a tap on my shoulder, i turned around and there were two six foot police officer standing behind me, the police men threw me into the back off the police van and i was interrogated by six police officers, then they drove me back home. i was expelled from school for playing truant".
"I turned around and there were two six foot police officer standing behind me"
In 1986, Jasvir was 16 years old, he was referred to enrol on a government Youth Training Scheme at Lillie Road, Fulham, London, by the careers teacher at school. I first enrolled on a bricklaying course, that only lasted for a month, so I decided to study a different course, so I enrolled on a Lithographic Printing Course, as part of the course I also learned silk screen printing and leaded window design.
As part of my printing course I had work experience working for Prontaprint on the old brompton road in fulham for 4 weeks, it was a good experience.
While studying lithographic printing he showed off his creative skills by designing, printing and distributed his own fashion and entertainment magazine to the local school kids on the high street. I enjoyed my time there; this was a good learning experience, "they paid us £23.50 a week for attending the training scheme, with the money I made a wise investment, I purchased the latest magazines, records, CD's, VHS video films, gadgets and designer clothes.
“I enjoyed my time there; this was a good learning experience”.
Through the YTS course Jasvir landed his first Job at the age of 17 years old as a Lithographic Printer at Latimer Road London working for Financial Training Printers, I worked as a print operator and print finisher. I used to print accountancy exam books for The Financial Training Company Limited which was a accountancy college next door to Financial Training printers.
While working as a printer Jasvir attended The London College of Printing at Back Hill in Clerkenwell, London for 6 months one day a week. it was a excellent college.
"all i remember was going to the pub with my class mates during lunch time and getting drunk".
I worked as a printer for five years, until all the staff at F.T printers were made redundant.
1987 Jasvir was introduced to photography and purchases his first analogue SLR camera.
In 1990 Jasvir ran in The Sunday Times national fun run held in hyde park London and raised money for charity. Jasvir also swims for charity.
